Border Wars Meet Yields Third Place for Women's Cross Country

The Lady Bearcat cross country squad matched the men's team this weekend, taking home a third place finish out of 29 teams at the SIU-Edwardsville Border Wars meet.

SBU tallied 146 points, finishing behind #3 Division III ranked Washington University, who took the team title with 79 points.  MIAA foe Missouri Southern, ranked 24th in last week's poll, outdistanced the Lady 'Cats by 33 points for second place.  SBU did keep MIAA nationally ranked #23 Pitt State (6th, 180 points) and #21 University of Central Missouri (9th, 238 points) at bay, in addition to the University of Indianapolis (4th, 148 points), Northern Kentucky (5th, 167 points), #16 DII DePauw (7th, 194 points), and #8 NAIA Mid-America Nazarene (8th, 202 points).

Senior Amy Broadhurst had an incredible performance, placing third out of 294 runners in an SBU all-time best 18:07.  Alyssa Maggart finished 29th in 18:58, while Chelsea Strahm notched a PR with a time of 19:03 for 34th place.  Kristen Colon and Courtney Ayers finished in 42nd (19:14) and 46th (19:16), respectively.  Lisa Bunn (73rd, 19:41), Erica Whitfield (77th, 19:45), Mallory Roth (96th, 20:01), Andrea Owensby (109th, 20:12) and Christine Flippin (152nd, 20:47) finished out the top-10 individuals for SBU.  Kristin Edwards finished in 23:20 for 248th place to complete the Bearcat competitors for the day.

The Lady 'Cats will remain idle this weekend in preparation for the MIAA Championships on October 21.  The meet will be held at Bolivar Golf Club, with the women racing at 10:45am.
