Men's Cross Country Third at SIU-E Border Wars

The SBU Bearcat men's cross country team's trip to Edwardsville for the Border War Championship meet resulted in a third place team finish on Saturday.
The men, coming off a program high 10th place national ranking, finished third out of 30 competing teams with 140 points at the race held on the campus of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Defending MIAA champion Missouri Southern took the team title with 79 points, followed by #1 ranked junior college powerhouse Rend Lake with 116. Central Missouri (193 points) and Washington University (222 points) rounded out the top-5, while former MIAA member Missouri-Rolla tied with #23 Division II ranked Lewis University at 242 points apiece. Other ranked teams included #15 NAIA Mid-America Nazarene (8th, 247 points) and #21 Division III ranked DePauw University (9th, 286 points).
T. Jay Sanderson led a tough 1-2-3 punch from SBU, crossing the finish line in 25:22 for 5th place overall out of 317 competitors. Sophomore Michael Pierce was right behind him in sixth place (25:29), while freshman Jeremy Glassmaker continued his string of impressive races with a 14th place in 25:47. Michael McCampbell was the fourth Bearcat to finish, placing 37th with a time of 26:23 and Timmy Specht closed out the scoring with a time of 27:16 for 92nd place. Cameron Ayers (108th, 27:26), Vince Tichenor (127th, 27:39), and David Hackney (131st, 27:41) all notched personal bests, followed by Andrew Bly (185th, 28:25), Jesse Kueker (212th, 29:03) and Tyler Pulley (258th, 30:10).
The Bearcats will take this weekend off in preparation for hosting the MIAA Championships on October 21.
