Stingy ESU defense baffles SBU

BOLIVAR, MO. ... #3 Emporia State University's strong defense smothered Southwest Baptist University as the Lady Hornets took an 88-48 win.  ESU shot 66% from three-point range.

SBU's Livia Brito led SBU with 14 points  and Trisha Lyons had seven rebounds.  ESU had five players in double figures as Michelle Steuve had 21 to lead all scorers.

In the first five minutes of the game, SBU had a one-point lead, 4-3, before ESU tied the game at six.  ESU then outscored SBU 34-11 in the final 15:43 for a 23-point lead at the half. 

ESU shot 55% in the second half and 83% from 3-point land as they ran away with the game.

Overall, SBU shot 32% from the floor to ESU's 51% and was out rebounded by ESU, 40-27. 

SBU will travel to Missouri Southern on Wednesday, February 1.  Gametime is 5:30 p.m.
