Late run gives SBU 19-point win over TSU

BOLIVAR, MO. ... A 23-6 run over nine minutes in the second half propelled Southwest Baptist to a 79-60 victory over Truman State. TSU only led once the entire game, 29-28, at the 2:52 mark in the first half.
Livia Brito was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line and shot 50% from the floor (6-of-12) for a career-high 21 points to lead all scorers. Casey Beavers canned 14 points while Trisha Lyons had 13 points and Cortney Shewmaker 11 points. Beavers led SBU with seven rebounds. Katie Fowler had 15 for TSU.
Tied at halftime at 36, SBU's Brito gave SBU the lead just 13 seconds into the second half on a layup. Lyons gave SBU a four-point lead as TSU the cut the lead back to two, 40-38, with 17:58 to go. SBU then went on a 23-6 run over the next 9:21 to take a 63-44 lead as the Lady Bearcats never looked back.
TSU stayed with SBU in the first half. SBU took as large of a lead as seven, twice, but the Bulldogs battled back. With 2:52 to go in the half, they took the lead, 29-28, on a three-pointer. Brito the connected from the three-point line to give SBU a two-point lead. The half then ended in a 36 all tie as TSU hit a three-pointer with 00:06 left in the half.
SBU shot 39% in the game and 76% from three-point range but forced 29 TSU turnovers. The Bulldogs hit 45% from the floor and was out rebounded 37-34.
The Bearcats will host Missouri Baptist on December 17 at 2 p.m. before they head to Las Vegas for the South Central Classic on Dec. 20-21.
