Men's cross country takes Roy Griak Invitational (VIDEO)

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The SBU men's cross country team took the Division II portion of the 24th Roy Griak Invitational behind a first place finish by Michael Pierce. The Bearcat men's squad had four runners in the top 20 (Pierce, Jeremy Glassmaker, Shawn Etzenhouser and Will Hansen).
The SBU men, who are nationally ranked at 18th and regionally at 4th, were led by the 2007 cross country All-American and reigning MIAA Runner of the Week in Pierce. The Gladstone, Mo., native ran the 8K course in 25:23. Glassmaker was sixth at 26:09 and Etzenhouser was 13th at 26:20. Hansen finished 18th at 26:40, Cameron Ayers was 23rd at 26:50, Michael McCampbell was 24th at 26:52 and Phillip Milller was 33rd at 27:12. The Bearcats were the best of 20 teams in the Men's Maroon Division II section.
The SBU women finished 19th out of 22 squads in the women's Division II portion of the race. SBU's top five finishers were Rebecca Brigance (64th - 24:51.54), Christine Pierce (90th - 25:14.14), Chelsea Strahm (97th - 25:25.99), Andrea Owensby (113th - 25:52.34) and Kristen Colon (116th - 25:56.04). Minnesota-Duluth won the event and Duluth runner Morgan Place was the individual winner.
The Bearcats have two weeks off to prepare for the GLVC vs. MIAA Classic, held in Rolla, Mo., Saturday, October 10th. The start time for the 6K women's race will be 10 a.m. while the men's 8K race will begin at 10:45 a.m.
