SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. -- The Bearcats opened the fall golf season with a tenth place finish at the Missouri Intercollegiate at The Club at Porto Cima.
SBU had to battle the elements, as well as a tough course, and finished the two-day tournament with a team score of 73-over par, placing them tenth out of 16 teams. "This was the best course we'll probably play on all year," said assistant coach Darrol Cribbs. "It has a real demanding layout. Plus, with the rain delay and some first tournament jitters, we didn't play as well as we could have."
Sophomore Brian Steele led the Bearcats with a score of 233, placing him at 7-over par and tied for tenth overall. Steele shot a 3-under 69 in the second round, but struggled to keep up the momentum into the final round. Senior Brad Nipper shot 12-over par for the tournament, putting him into a tie for 25th place. Central Missouri won the event with an 880 score and Rockhurst's Clarke Fry took home top individual honors at eleven under par.
Next up for the Bearcats is the Truman Bulldog Classic at the Kirksville Country Club. The two-day tournament starts on Monday, September 14.
