Bearcat baseball drops two to #8 Emporia State

EMPORIA, Kan. -- The SBU baseball Bearcats fell in both games of Saturday's doubleheader, losing 5-0 and 13-3 to the #8 Emporia State Hornets.
The Bearcats (9-41, 7-31 MIAA) managed only four hits in the opener and were shut down by ESU's Ryan Anthony, who threw all seven innings and struck out nine. Ty Morris of SBU threw well in relief, pitching 3 1/3 scoreless innings.
The MIAA regular season champion Hornets (42-10, 29-7 MIAA) erupted in game two to run-rule the Bearcats in eight innings. The Hornets scored in every inning but the fifth and got three in each of the third, fourth and eighth frames. SBU got two runs in the fifth inning when Brendon Cox homered to lead off the inning. A.J. Roller would single to score Jason Asher. Roller picked up another RBI in the seventh when his single scored Bo Helsel.
SBU will close out the 2009 season with a non-conference doubleheader with Lincoln in Bolivar on Tuesday starting at 1:00 p.m.
