Grant's auto qualifier in high jump leads SBU at MSSU Williams-Laptad meet

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Kyle
Grant's school record high jump of six feet, 11.5 inches was an
automatic qualifer for nationals and highlighted the SBU Bearcat track
and field squad's effort at MSSU's Williams-Laptad Invitational.

Grant's jump was nearly three inches more than the second place finisher. Grant had provisionally qualified in the high jump two weeks ago at the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic.
Other top finishers for the Bearcats included Sarah Bowling, who took first and provisionally qualified in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 7 inches. Bowling also tied for second in the high jump. Jenny Blair won the 400 meters and took third in the 200.
Michael McCampbell won the 3000 meter steeplechase. Jeremy Glassmaker took third in the 800 meters. The men's 4x400m relay team also placed third.
The SBU Bearcats will compete next weekend at the MIAA Outdoor Championships. The two-day event will be held at Missouri Southern in Joplin and begins Saturday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 3 at noon.
