BOLIVAR, Mo. -- SBU
women's basketball head coach J.C. Carter has announced the signings of
seven players who will join the Bearcats for next season.
New Bearcats for 2009-10 include Afton Baldwin, Abbey Frazier, Ashleigh Gallio, Jessica Roberts, Freddie Sims, and twin sisters Lorelei and Savannah Snow.
Afton Baldwin
A 5-10 guard/forward from Crowder College in Neosho, Mo., Baldwin averaged 12 points and five rebounds per game at Crowder. She is the daughter of Mark and Penny Baldwin of Nevada, Mo. and will have two years remaining with the Bearcats. "Afton is like several other of our signees because she doesn't have a true position," said Carter. "She is very strong and physical, which in the MIAA is a must. One of her strengths is that she can really shoot the three."
Abbey Frazier
Frazier is a 6-2 center from Louisburg, Kansas who will be a freshman at SBU. She averaged 11 points and nine rebounds per game and earned second team All-Frontier League. She is the daughter of Angelo and Marilyn Macaluso. Carter says, "Abbey brings a true inside presence that we lacked this season. Not only does she have the ability to score, but she is also a tremendous rebounder. We are excited about her career here for four years."
Ashleigh Gallio
Gallio is a 5-8 junior transfer guard from Kansas City Kansas Community College. She averaged seven points and six assists per game as a sophomore. She ranked third in the KJCCC East Conference in assists per game. The daughter of Walter Gallio and Ali Gallio of Millicent, Australia, Ashleigh will be a psychology major at SBU. "Ashleigh is a proven leader and brings a wealth of maturity to the team," said Carter. "She has great size for a point guard that allows her to see the floor, but also has great speed to get into the lane."
Jessica Roberts
A 5-8 junior transfer guard from Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., Roberts averaged 17 points and six rebounds as a sophomore and was named first team All-Region 16. She is the daughter of Dennis and Peggy Roberts of Tulsa, Okla., and will major in psychology. Carter says, "Jessica has a natural ability to score. She is very versatile in that she can play several positions. She can really step out and shoot the three, but can also go inside and post up."
Freddie Sims

| Freddie Sims |
Sims is a 5-6 guard from Raytown South High School who averaged 19 points per game and was first team All-State as a senior. The freshman-to-be is the daughter of Fred and Debbie Sims of Raytown, Mo., and will major in athletic training. Regarding the high-scoring guard, Carter said, "Freddie is a scorer who averaged nearly 20 points for Raytown South this season. She will be a tremendous offensive threat for us."
Lorelei Snow
The 5-9 Neosho High School product averaged 14 points, six assists and five steals per game as a guard. She was named first team All-District, first team All-Conference, and was a two-time member of the KURM Dream Team, Neosho Daily News All-Area first team, Joplin Globe All-Area second team and Jay All-Tournament team. Lorelei is the daughter of Laurie Snow. "Lorelei had an outstanding high school career and we look for her to continue that success," said Carter. "She is a very smooth player -- she has the ability to really pass and make the players around her a lot better. She also has very good range shooting the three. I like her quickness and her length which make her a very good on-ball defender."
Savannah Snow
Also a 5-9 point guard from Neosho, Savannah was injured her senior year but averaged 17 points, five assists, four steals and four rebounds per game as a junior. She was the team leader in three-point percentage at 41.7%. She earned special honorable mention Joplin Globe All-Area and second team All-Conference and first team Neosho Daily News. She is the daughter of Laurie Snow and will be an elementary education major. "Savannah wasn't able to show how good she is this season because of the injury," said Carter. "But she has the ability to be an excellent player at this level. Not only she can she play the point but she is also a tremendous shooter so she can play the wing."
These players join Kristen Link, Pazley Currie, Brooke Jurgensmeyer and
Chastity Prince, who signed with Carter's Bearcats in the November signing period.
