BOLIVAR, Mo. -- In their first home games in over a month, the SBU Bearcats split their MIAA opener with the Fort Hays State Tigers. The Tigers took game one 4-0 while the Bearcats scored in the bottom of the sixth to win 1-0 in the nightcap.

Sophomore Josie Rose had a long day, throwing two complete games. Not only was it a long day for her arm, but Rose also took a few shots in other spots. One Tiger hitter lined a pitch off Rose's foot and later, FHSU's Adrian Mohr laced a pitch up the middle, that caught Rose on the side of the knee. Rose was able to stay in the game and finish off the Tigers for her 11th win of the season. She struck out eight in game one, but gave up four runs. She battled back in game two, and shutout the Tigers on four hits, while recording three punch outs.

"Josie was amazing today," said head coach Christy Capner. "When she got hit on the knee, she told me 'It's been a rough day.' But she was able to hang in there and finish the game. I'm proud of our all girls for fighting back and getting the win in the second game against a good Fort Hays team."

SBU 3B Krysta Baderdeen had the clutch hit in the second game. Katrina Munoz beat out an infield single before Baderdeen tripled down the right field line to score Munoz.

Munoz would go 2-for-3 in the second game. FHSU's Kayla Rupa also threw well, going six innings, allowing five hits and the lone 6th inning run while striking out seven.

In game one, the Tigers got two runs in the first and another in the second inning before getting a run across in the seventh. FHSU's Mohr out-dueled Rose in the opener, and picked up her eighth win of the year while giving up four hits. Baderdeen had two hits in game one including a double while Munoz also doubled for the 'Cats.

Both teams are now 1-1 in the MIAA with the Bearcats at 16-18 overall and the Tigers at 19-18 on the season. SBU travels to Jefferson City tomorrow (Tuesday) for a doubleheader with Lincoln, scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
