KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- After nearly being no-hit on Friday by the Truman State, the SBU Bearcats were dealt a similar hand on Saturday, when Bulldog starter Michael Staihr took a perfect game into the seventh. Kyle Wise was able to break up the perfecto with a home run but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats fell 2-1 in the opener before losing 9-5 in the nightcap.

The Bulldogs
(4-19, 3-9 MIAA)
were up 2-0 in the seventh, and retired the first two SBU hitters and had two strikes on Wise before he deposited Staihr's pitch over the left-centerfield wall.

The Bearcats (
7-12, 5-5 MIAA) were given a strong starting performance from Wes Burrell. The Willard High School product and freshman lefthander allowed just three hits and just two earned runs.

Game two saw the 'Cats get one in the first inning, before the Bulldogs would get three runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and single tallies in the sixth and eighth innings. SBU's Brandon Shepherd drove in two with his second homer of the year. Wise, A.J. Roller and Justin Crumpley each had two hits for the 'Cats.

The Bearcats will back home this Friday and Saturday when they host the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks. Friday's doubleheader starts at 1:00 p.m. while Saturday's twinbill begins at noon.
