Men's DMR team narrowly misses win at NCAA nationals

HOUSTON, Texas -- The SBU men's distance relay team narrowly missed a win at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, but still earned All-American honors with their second place finish on day one of the track portion of the D-II Festival.

The DMR team of Shawn Etzenhouser, Nathaniel Rogers, Jeremy Glassmaker and Michael Pierce ran a time of 9:57.90, which was .34 seconds behind Colorado School of Mines DMR time of 9:57.56.

Michael Pierce, who was battling illness during the week, also qualified for the finals in the mile run, after a 4:17.06 time prelim time that was seventh best at the national meet. The finals of the mile event are scheduled for Saturday at 3:40 p.m.

Etzenhouser finished 13th in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.25.

SBU's Sarah Bowling will also compete Saturday in the triple jump. Her flight begins at 4:30 p.m.

The D-II Festival in Houston this week is hosting the national championships in swimming and diving, indoor track and field and wrestling.
