BOLIVAR, MO -- SBU holds on for a split of the doubleheader against Henderson State, winning the first matchup, 6-1 before falling in the second game 6-2.

In the first game, Josie Rose had her best start of the early season, only giving up five hits and one run, while striking out seven. Third baseman Krysta Baderdeen had a big impact on the Bearcat offense, going 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI, one each coming in the third and fifth innings. Right fielder McKenzie Mortimer had a big game at the plate as well, collecting two hits, including an inside-the-park home run to increase SBU's lead in the fourth inning.

"We played tremendously. All the girls collectively hit well, and Henderson State is a strong hitting team, so for Josie to hold them to one run was outstanding," said coach Cristy Capner about the first game.

The second game didn't go as smoothly for the Bearcats, who were kept off the scoreboard for the first five innings. "We did a good job putting the bat on the ball, but the hits just didn't come," added Capner. SBU did finally broke through in the sixth inning, with a 2-run homer by Baderdeen. On the mound, Brittany Wood impressively closed out the game, in her first relief appearance of the season, only allowing two hits in four innings of work.

The Bearcats return to action at home on Tuesday, February 17th, when they face off against Drury. Start time is 1:00 pm.
