BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats suffered their first defeat of the 2008 soccer season, 1-0, against #4 Nebraska-Omaha.
Several hundred Bearcat fans watched their purple team give an excellent effort against their nationally-ranked opponent.
SBU had several opportunities in both halves, but UNO's Lauren Fox made the necessary saves in goal.
UNO's Jessica Powers provided the game's only goal in the 69th minute, with a header served by Casey Bigsby's corner kick.
UNO out-shot SBU 8-7,
"Our team fought hard today," said SBU's head coach, Benjamin Wade. "They gave 100% out there. We had a lot of really great chances, and this game could have gone either way. All I can ask is that we come out here as a team, and give 100%. That is what they did today. We can't walk off with our heads down after this one."
The Bearcats will defend their 6-1-0 record against Truman in Kirksville on Saturday, in a match against another top, nationally-ranked opponent.
