JOPLIN, Mo. – The Bearcat soccer squad continued their offensive rampage, defeating the Missouri Southern Lion today 6-1 in Joplin.
SBU’s Rhiane Mitchell, who entered the week at the very top of the NCAA’s points and goals leader board, scored three goals and recorded one assist. Nicola Cousins added SBU’s other three goals.
Johanna Olsson gave up one goal (SBU’s only goal surrendered of the season), and made 6 saves.
All scoring came in the second half.
“I loved watching out attack fire on all cylinders,” said SBU’s head coach, Benjamin Wade. “Nic (Cousins) stepped up and played an incredible game up front to solidify our attack. Our defense played well, but we have room for improvement. Johanna (Olsson) made some great saves for us.”
“I liked the physical style of play we saw today from our team. If we continue to play with this kind of attack, we’re going to have a very good season.”
With today’s win, the Bearcats raise their record to 3-0 on the season, standing at 2-0 in the MIAA.
