BOLIVAR, Mo. — The SBU Bearcats lost against Rockhurst (1-3) and Arkansas Tech (0-3) on the first day of the Bearcat Challenge.

Against Rockhurst, SBU dropped the first set, 25-17, came back to even the match with a 14-25 win in the second set, but lost the next two, 25-10 and 25-17.

Ashley Jurgensmeyer had a team-high 12 kills for the Bearcats. Kelsey Stewart added 10 kills. Brianna Wallace logged 31 assists.

In their afternoon match against Arkansas Tech, the Bearcats were defeated 25-20, 25-22, and 25-21.

Rachel Sawyer was the only Bearcat with double-digit kills, at 10. Brianna Wallace recorded 32 assists.

"We played a couple of good teams today," said SBU's coach, Kelly Richardson. "When we were backed into a corner, we showed ourselves that we have a lot of 'fight' in our team. Once we find a way to play a complete set, like we did at the end of today's sets, we'll see some good things happen. Tomorrow, we're hoping some of our players will really step up to the challenge."

The defeat evens the Bearcats' record at 3-3, as they face Texas A&M - Commerce (10:00 a.m.) and Missouri S&T (5:30 p.m.) in tomorrow's action.
