KANSAS CITY -- SBU's Rhiane Mitchell has been named as the MIAA Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

Mitchell, a 5-foot-5 freshman from Manchester, England, broke two SBU and MIAA single-game records in the Bearcats' 11-0 road win over Oakland City (Ind.) Thursday (Aug. 28).

She finished with five goals and one assist for 11 points. Only three players in MIAA history had scored more than three goals in one match -- Missouri-Rolla's Lizz Skrybalo vs. SBU 9/4/99, Truman's Sara Murray vs. SBU 9/22/01 and Missouri Southern's Ashley Munnelly vs. UMR 10/15/01.

Mitchell's 11 points was one better than Skrybalo's total against SBU in 1999 (4 goals, 2 assists).

She had two goals and one assist in the first half as the Bearcats claimed a 4-0 lead in the first 45 minutes. Three of her goals were off assists from Nicola Cousins, who set the conference assist mark with five and added a goal for a seven-point game.

Mitchell is a graduate of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic High School.
