BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Cross Country team recently completed their 2nd annual 24 hour relay, a huge success, with the team completing 468 miles during the 24-hour period.

The relay was helps the SBU cross country teams come together at the beginning of the year and form a bond with each other. Forty athletes and coaches spent the 24 hours out on the track running, sleeping and just having fun together.  All forty of the participants split up into two groups, each runner ran approximately every 2 hours.  This year there were fifteen people who ran a total of thirty support miles for the relay.

SBU's head coach, Corey McElhaney, commented: “The relay this year was so much better than last year.  Last year our relay began on the hottest day of the year, 102 degrees, and this year it was in the 80’s the entire time.  The teams did a great job and made the best of it.  We had more support this year and just missed our 2007 total of 471 miles.  I would like to say thank you to Mike Wolhoy and the athletic trainers for taking care of us during the relay and all of the athletic staff who helped set up for the relay.”
