BOLIVAR, Mo. — Last Saturday, 15 members of the SBU football team gave a helping hand to the Esquire, a local ministry here in Bolivar, who is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. Part of the Esquire's festivies included a block party, which hosted more than 1000 people from the Bolivar community.

The SBU players arrived at 1:00 PM to set up equipment and, according to the leader of the event, Linda Wieland Bunch, were an important part of the day's success.

"Without the help of the SBU football players, it would have easily taken several more hours to set up for the Esquire Block Party. Chairs, tables, stage...all went up quickly, smoothly and safely. These guys made it  look easy and it was anything but easy.

"They hauled chairs, set up tables and put together the stage. They did absolutely everything they were asked and more. The Esquire volunteers really appreciated their hard work and willingness to donate their time. It
says a lot of students to give up their Saturday afternoon to help on a project to benefit people they don't even know.

"For these young men to come help with a community project speaks well of them, their coaches and is a great example of SBU students supporting Bolivar community projects. Bolivar might not be their permanent home, but their help Saturday was a generous showing of help to their neighbors here in Bolivar. When SBU talks about student leaders, the guys I saw helping Saturday, are surely examples of that."
