The SBU Lady ‘Cats notched their first MIAA win on Saturday night, by defeating the Fort Hays State Lady Tigers 86-85.
SBU led by as many as 17, but Fort Hays rallied to take the lead with just over a minute remaining. SBU’s Amber Wheeler hit a jumper with 26 seconds left to give the Lady ‘Cats their final lead.
Wheeler led Lady ‘Cat scoring with 26 points. She connected on 4 treys and added 4 assists. Livia Brito recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Traci Bybee scored 16.
SBU shot 47% from the field, 48% from the 3-point line, and 68% from the free throw line.
The Lady ‘Cats held the Lady Tigers to 38% from the field, but were out-rebounded by Fort Hays 41-47. There were 9 lead changes in the game. SBU had 22 turnovers to Fort Hays’ 21.
With the win, the Lady ‘Cats improve to 9-4 on the season, and 1-3 in the MIAA. Their next game is Tuesday, January 9, as they host Pittsburg State in Bolivar at 5:45.
