The SBU Bearcats lost to the #18 ranked Emporia State Hornets, 84-93, in a Saturday afternoon MIAA contest.

Jim Grabowski scored 25 and rebounded 6 for SBU. Jared Young and Jason Jemison added  17 points each.

Emporia's Wes Book poured in 26 points and secured 15 rebounds. Book has already been named MIAA Player of the Week twice this season.

The Hornets built a 20-point lead with 10 minutes left in the contest, but they watched their lead slip away. A furious Bearcat rally cut the lead to only 4 with 3:18 remaining, but Emporia State was able to knock down their free throws and close the door on SBU's comeback hopes.

SBU shot 41% (29-71) from the field, 24% (7-29) from the 3-point line, and 86% (19-22) from the free-throw line.

The Bearcats pulled down 32 rebounds to Emporia State's 52.

With the loss, SBU's overall record falls to 6-5. They are now 0-2 in MIAA action.

The Bearcats host Central Missouri on Tuesday, January 2 at 7:45.
