The SBU Lady 'Cats defeated the Cougars of Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville by the score of 94-61 in the Cruzin Classic tournament in Miami Shores, Florida.

Five Lady 'Cats were in double figures. Erika Souza led SBU's scoring attack with 20. Courtney Creed added 17. Rachel Graves added 16. Leslie Hanchey missed a double-double by a single rebound. She pulled down nine from the boards and scored 11.

The other SBUer in double figures was Amber Wheeler with 14, who was announced as MIAA Player of the Week this afternoon.

The Lady 'Cats forced 24 turnovers of the Cougars.

Head Coach Jim Middleton was pleased with the way his team “pushed the tempo the entire game.” He added, “We kept going as fast as they wanted to go. We kept coming with full court pressure.” Coach Middleton also was quick to point out that the Lady ‘Cats had yet another “good passing” game. “Which,” he said, “I’ve come to expect from this team.”

SBU is now averaging over 82 points per game on the young season, an increased output of 17.8 points per game over last season's average.

SBU improves its record to 8-1. They play Cruzin Classic host Barry University tomorrow evening at 8:00 PM (EST).
