Livia Brito scored 17, Amber Wheeler scored 13 and Cortney Shewmaker scored 12 as the SBU Lady Cats defeated Rockhurst University Hawks 74-62 to take them to 3-0 for the season.

The game went back and forth in the first half with the lead changing hands 10 times but only ever reaching a high of six points. As SBU entered the locker room they trailed by only two points thanks to the boost given to them by Kristina Salscheider when she entered the game and scored 8 points.

Middleton felt that the team had a “lethargic first half” but it was definitely “a tale of two halves” in which the Lady Cats ended up on top at the final buzzer.

SBU came out for the second half looking like a different team, with a more aggressive defense and better pressure on the ball, they looked like a team ready to out-run their opposition. With 16:55 remaining in the second half SBU took charge of the game by taking a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game, with their biggest lead of 12 points occurring at the end of the game.

Leslie Hanchey came close to a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Middleton said “it is great to be 3-0, the players are excited about where they are and rightfully so” he added “it will make the Thanksgiving turkey taste a lot better.”

SBU is back in action on Saturday, November 25th when they play Northeastern State University. Tip-off is at 2 pm in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
