BOLIVAR, MO. ... Claiming one of the biggest wins in the history of the program, Southwest Baptist University won game one against #10 Central Missouri State and fell in game two. The win over CMSU is the first for SBU in the head coach Sam Berg's era and the first over a ranked opponent. The last time SBU defeated CMSU was on April 13, 1989, 8-6 in Bolivar.
SBU is now 14-10 on the year and 3-1 in the MIAA.

Game 1
SBU 3, CMSU 2
Clutch pitching and hitting by SBU led to a one-run win over #10 CMSU. Zane Montgomery won his 9th consecutive game to tie SBU's record for most wins in a season. He went all seven innings and recorded seven strikeouts. CMSU did break his streak of scoreless innings as he went 20 innings without letting a run score.
CMSU broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with two outs to make it 1-0. SBU answered back in teh bottom of the fourth inning with the first clutch hit of the day. Junior Skyler Powers smacked his 3rd home run of the year with two strikes and two outs to tie the game at one.
In the top of the sixth inning, CMSU scored on a sacrifice fly to regain the lead, 2-1. It was another two out rally in the bottom of the inning that gave SBU a 3-2 lead. Josh Baggett led off the inning with a double but Joel Gould grounded out and Jason Asher struck out to put two outs on the board. Again, with two strikes, Kevin Miller connected for his 4th home run of the year to left center field for the second clutch hit by SBU to make it 3-2.
In the top of the 7th, Montgomery got the first two Mule batters to fly out. He then walked the next batter but had the 4th batter of the inning ground out to record the historic win.

Kevin Miller was 2-of-3 with two RBI to lead SBU. Owen Williams took the loss for CMSU (5-2).
SBU has never defeated CMSU in the Sam Berg era (7 seven years) and beat a top 10 team in the nation. The win marked a historic win for the Bearcat baseball program.
Game 2
CMSU 14, SBU 4
The Mules came out firing in game two as they pounded out 18 hits in nine innings. SBU used four pitchers in the game.
CMSU scored three runs in the second and one in the fourth to make it 4-0. Judson Smith had a no-hitter through six innings and gave up one hit in the 7th.
The Mules scored six in the top of hte 7th to make it 10-0. SBU answered with one run in the bottom of the inning when Chris Martinez doubled home Powers.
CMSU added two runs in the 8th and the 9th for their 14 runs. SBU scored three in the bottom of the eighth to make it 12-4. Miller doubled in two of the three runs to score the second and third runs of the game. Miller then scored when Powers doubled him home.
Ian Murray started the game and went two innings while giving up three earned runs. J.R. Smith then followed for four innings and allowed only one run with two strike outs. Bobby McMillian went 1.2 innings and gave up eight runs and Nick Henderson finished with two earned runs.
SBU had four players with one hit. Miller had two RBI in the game.
CMSU is ranked #10 in the latest NCBWA poll and #2 in the region while SBU is #10 in the region.
