BOLIVAR, MO. ... Southwest Baptist University improved their record to 12-9 as they split a double header with Minnesota State University-Mankato (11-5).  SBU won game one, 4-0, but fell in game two, 15-5.

GAME 1

Zane Montgomery recorded his 8th win of the  year and his second consecutive shutout with a 4-0 win.  He went the complete seven innings and struck out six Maverick batters.  He also only allowed three hits in the win.  Montgomery has now pitched 18 innings without a run scored.

After four consecutive innings of no runs, SBU answered with a three run fifth inning.  Josh Baggett started off the inning by getting on base thanks to a MSU error.  Joel Gould pushed him over to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt and then Jason Asher walked to put two runners on.

With only one out, Kevin Miller connected on his 3rd home run of the year to left center field to make it 3-0.

SBU then added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Baggett hit in Beau Davis.

Montgomery pitched himself out of a jam in the top of the fourth inning with the bases loaded.  MSU-M had one out with all three runners on base when Montgomery struck out the next batter and then finished off the inning with a fly ball to get out of the jam.

Five different players each had one hit but Miller picked up three RBI and Baggett had the other.

GAME 2

It was a whole different game in game #2 as MSU-M scored in every inning except the first.

By the end of the the 5th inning, MSU-M had a 7-0 lead and then they added four more in the top of the 6th to make it 11-0.

SBU answered with four runs in the sixth to narrow the lead to seven, 11-4.  Casey Martin and Jason Asher scored the first two runs on an error and then Wilkins brought home Skyler Powers for the third run.  Kyle Griffin had a sacrifice fly for the fourth run to score Chris Martinez.

MSU-M put four more runs up in the 7th but SBU scored one in the bottom of the inning to make it 15-5.

Beau Davis took his first loss of the year (2-1) as he went four innings and had two strikeouts.  Ray Kelly pitched two innings and then Nick Henderson finished the final inning.

Asher went 2-of-4 for SBU and was the only batter to get two hits.  Casey Martin, Chris Martinez, Spencer Wilkins, and Griffin all had one RBI.

SBU will face MSU-M in a single nine-inning game tomorrow at 12 p.m.
