Sheldon Pace was voted onto the Daktronics all-Region 1st team by the South Central Sports Information Directors.
STEPHENVILLE, TX. ... Gaining another award for his play, senior Sheldon Pace was named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II South Central Region First-Team. He is one of two players from the MIAA on the list.

Pace was named to the first team along with CMSU's Michael Hicks. Hicks and Tarleton State's John Davis were named the co-regional players of the year.

Pace has picked up several awards this year and was named the top player in the MIAA by being named the MIAA MVP, MIAA Defenisve Player of the Year, the MIAA Touranment MVP, all-MIAA First-Team, all-MIAA Defensive Team, and all-MIAA Tournament team. He was named the MIAA Player of the Week four times this season and will be playing in the inaugural NCAA Division II All-Star game in Springfield, Massachusetts.

This season Pace rewrote the SBU single season record book for steals and assists. He broke the steals record in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and finished with 70 steals and 265 assists. The steals record was 25 years old and held by Marvin Williams when he had 68 steals in the 1980-81 season. Pace then broke the 15 year old record for assists by 57 when he finished with 265 assists. Ernest Hall had 208 assists in the 1990-91 season. In two years, Pace assumed 433 assists and will finish third all-time at SBU and 133 steals for 4th all-time at SBU.

He set the SBU single game record for assists with 17 against Central Missouri State on January 10. The 17 assists in a single game is the best by any player in the NCAA Division II.

SBU finsihed the year at 27-5 and won the MIAA Championship, outright, the MIAA Tournament, made the NCAA Tournament, and was the #1 seed in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament. It had been 15 years since SBU had won a MIAA Championship or been in the NCAA Tournament.
