Pace, Steyn to play in D2 all-Star game

Sheldon Pace is the 2006 MIAA MVP, MIAA Defensive Player of the Year, MIAA Tournament MVP, all-MIAA 1st Team, all-MIAA Tournament Team, all-MIAA Defensive Team, Daktronics all-South Central Region 1st-Team, and all-South Central Region Tournament team.
SPRINGFIELD, MA. ... Showcasing their talents, Southwest Baptist University will have two players from the 2005-06 men's basketball team playing in the inaugural NCAA Division II All-Star game. The game will take place in Springfield, Massaschusetts, as a part of the Elite Eight.

Senior's Sheldon Pace and Frans Steyn will play one more collegiate game with other NCAA Division II athletes in the inaugural NCAA Division II All-Star game. Both players will be apart of the West Squad made up of players from Sonoma State, Western Washington, Central Missouri State, South Dakota, Northern State, St. Joseph's, and the Univ. of Findlay.

SBU is only one of two universities that will be represented by two players. Delta State, of the East team, had two players selected to the team, too.

Pace has rewritten the SBU single season record book for steals and assists. He now holds both records with 70 steals and 268 assists. He has also been named to several outstanding teams this year in the all-MIAA First-Team, all-MIAA Defensive team, all-MIAA Tournament team, Daktronics all-South Central Region First-Team, and the all-South Central Regional Tournament team. He was voted the MIAA MVP and the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year.

Frans Steyn is all-MIAA 2nd Team and all-MIAA Defensive team. He led the MIAA in blocks with 67 and was 3rd in rebounding.
Steyn finished the year leading the MIAA in blocks with 67 and finished 3rd in rebounding (7.7 rpg). For most of the season, he led the MIAA in field goal percentage, too. With his 67 blocks, he finishes 2nd all-time in SBU history. He was voted to the all-MIAA Second-Team and the MIAA all-Defensive team.

The game will be played on Friday, March 24, at 7:00 p.m. eastern time in Springfield, Massachusetts.
