BOLIVAR, MO. ... Taking a tough loss in game one (3-2), Southwest Baptist University bounced back to win game two in a double header, 6-2.  SBU is now 7-3 on the year and 1-1 in the MIAA.

Game 1

After three scoreless innings, MSSU put up two runs in the top of the fourth inning.  SBU answered that with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.  With the bases loaded, Tara Phillips batted in both runs for SBU with a single down the right field line.

It was not until the top of the sixth inning that MSSU retook the lead on a home run for a 3-2 advantage.

Stephanie Martin took the loss but recorded five strikeouts in the game.  Phillips went 2-of-3 with 2 RBI in the game to lead the Bearcats.

Game 2

The game went scoreless for 3.5 innings when SBU unleashed for six runs in the bottom of the foruth inning.

Michelle Thompson won game 2 and went 2-of-3 with one RBI.
Mary Nguyen started the inning with a walk and then with her speed made it to third base when MSSU threw out Amanda Orchard in her at bat.  Michelle Thompson brought home Nguyen with a single through the right side of the infield.  After another walk, Phillips single home Thompson for the 2nd run of the inning.  Ashley Loftis then singled to the 2nd baseman as Dunn crosse the plate to make it 3-0.

Cindy Euliss recorded her first triple of the year to clear the bases and push the lead to 5-0.  Rebecca Cook then layed down the perfect bunt for a single that scored Euliss from third for the 6th run of the game.

SBU allowed two MSSU runs in the top of the 5th inning but Thompson retired the next six of seven batters for the win with two strikeouts in those seven at bats.

Thompson improved to 2-1 on the year with three strikeouts overall and no walks.  She also led the hitting barrage with a 2-of-3 performance and one RBI.  Rebecca Cook also went 2-of-3 with one RBI.  Euliss had two RBI.

SBU will host Northern State tomorrow in a double header beginning at 1:00 p.m.
