INDIANAPOLIS, IN. ... Just after claiming the 2006 MIAA Tournament Championship, Southwest Baptist University was rewarded with the #1 seed in the NCAA Division II South Central Region along with hosting the tournament. This is the 3rd time that SBU has appeared in the NCAA Tournament.

A little over three hours after capturing the MIAA Tournament Championship, SBU was named the #1 seed in the South Central Region with a 26-4 record. This is the first time that the Bearcats have hosted the NCAA Regional Tournament and only the third time to be in the NCAA Tournament.

SBU will be hosting three other MIAA schools, three Lone Star Conference teams, and one Heartland Conference team. Making it into the tournament bracket is #3 Central Missouri State, #5 NW Missouri State, and #6 Truman State. Tarleton State is the #2 seed from the LSC followed by #4 West Texas A&M and #7 Central Oklahoma. #8 St. Edwards is the only team from the Heartland Conference.

SBU made the NCAA Tournament in the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons as the 1990-91 season was the best in the history of the program. The Bearcats advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight after winning the region and finished the year with a 29-3 record.

The Bearcats swept the MIAA Tournament and regular season championships for only the second time in the history of the program. SBU's only other year to accomplish this feat was in the 1990-91 season.

SBU will now look for a regional championship starting on Saturday, March 11, in Bolivar, Missouri, against #8 seed St. Edwards (TX). #2 Tarleton State will face #7 Central Oklahoma in a LSC battle while #3 CMSU will face #6 Truman State in a MIAA matchup. #4 West Texas A&M will compete against #5 NW Missouri State.

All the games will take place in the Meyer Sports Center starting with the first game on Saturday, March 11, at 12:00 p.m. when #3 CMSU will face #6 Truman State.

Eight teams will be competing for a spot in the Elite Eight in Springfield, Massachusetts.
