BOLIVAR, MO. ... Picking up their first sweep of the season in only their third series, Southwest Baptist University took two games from the University of Missouri-Rolla, 7-5 and 9-7.  SBU is now 4-2 on the year.

Kevin Miller went 4-of-5 in two games with five RBIs.  Kyle Griffin had three RBIs in game two.

GAME 1

UMR jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning with two homeruns back-to-back from their top two hitters on the team.  SBU cut the lead to two, 3-1, in the fourth inning when Bobby McMillin singled home Chris Martinez.  UMR added one more in the fifth inning to extend their lead to three, 4-1, but yet again SBU did not fade away.  The Bearcats scored their second run on a Miller double to right center to score Joel Gould.

Ian Murray picked up his first save as a Bearcat.
The game was decided in the bottom of the sixth inning when SBU came roaring back with a five-run inning to make it 7-4.  Skyler Powers was the first run to cross the plate on a Spencer Wilkins double.  Zane Montgomery knocked in the second run with a single as Spencer Wilkins came home to tie the game at four.  Montgomery was the third run when he touched home plate on a UMR wild pitch.  The third double of the inning came from Casey Martin as he brought home Jason Asher and then Miller picked up his 2nd RBI of the game when he singled in Martin to make it 7-4.

UMR gave SBU a scare in the top of the 7th but Ian Murray came in for SBU to record his first save of the year as SBU took the win, 7-5.

Kevin Miller went 3-of-4 with two RBIs while Montgomery was 2-of-3 with one RBI.  Beau Davis picked up his first win of the year as he went 6.1 innings and struck out four batters.

GAME 2

SBU started off on a good note in game two as they scored eight runsin the first three innings.  SBU posted two runs in the first inning.  Miller brought home two of his three RBIs when he doubled home Martin and Joel Gould.  The second inning brought the third run on Wilkins first home run of the season in his first at-bat of the game.

Jason Asher hit his first collegiate home run at SBU.
A five-run third inning made it 8-0.  With the bases loaded and two outs, Griffin cleared the bases with a double to make it 6-0.  Asher finished out the scoring with his first career home run for an 8-0 advantage.

UMR scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings to bring it to 8-2 but Miller hit a sacrifice fly for his 3rd RBI of the game to score Gould.

The Miners made a game of it in the top of the 7th inning when they scored five runs.  With two outs and the tying run at the plate, SBU's Nick Henderson came in and finished the last out as UMR's Madison flew out to Gould to secure the win.

Henderson received his first collegiate save while Zane Montgomery improved to 3-0 going 6.2 innings with eight strikeouts.  Gould led SBU with a 2-of-3 performance from the plate.  Miller and Griffin each had three RBIs while Asher provided two.

SBU will travel to Arkansas to face Henderson State University on Saturday, February 25, at 12 p.m.
