TOPEKA, KS. ... An all-around team performance for #7 Southwest Baptist University gave the Bearcats (16-1/5-1) a 90-64 win over Washburn University.  The win breaks SBU's 15-game losing streak to WU that dated back to the 1995-96 season.

Hitting 6-of-9 from three-point land, Jason Jemison finished with 24 points to lead all scorers.  He finished the game shooting 9-of-14 from the floor and grabbed four rebounds. Sheldon Pace, the MIAA leader in steals and assists, had another outstanding game with 17 points and nine assists to go with three steals.  Frans Steyn added 16 points with another shooting clinic from the floor by going 6-of-9.  Dylan Channel had 20 for WU.

Looking to make things interesting in the first half, WU battled the Bearcats in the first five minutes as the game was tied at 11 with 14:54 left in the half.  In the next three minutes, SBU put on a 10-0 run to take a 21-11 lead and never look back.  Pace scored eight of the 10 points with back-to-back three-pointers to start the run.  WU did cut the lead to five, twice, but SBU raced back to an 11-point lead at the 2:27 mark.  WU made a 7-2 run over two minutes to cut the lead to six, 40-34, with 00:48 left but Jemison canned a three-pointer with 00:32 left to put the lead at nine for the half, 43-34.

SBU came out gunnig in the second half with a 13-2 run and a 20-point lead in the first five minutes.  Jemison had two three-pointers in the run.  SBU then kept their distance the rest of the way never letting the lead slip under17 points.  The Bearcats took their largest lead of 30-points with 00:48 left in the game, 90-60, on a Jesus Lopez layup.

Shooting 52.2% from the floor, SBU also shot 46% from the three-point line and was 7-of-13 in the second half (53%).  WU shot43% overall.  SBU out rebounded WU, 35-34, and forced 17 turnovers while only committing nine.  They also had eight steals.

SBU will be off until January 21st when they will host Missouri Western at 7:30 p.m. in the Meyer Sports Center.
