[box vs. WU]

TOPEKA, KS. ... #1 Wasbhurn University (16-0/6-0) took control of the game from the opening bucket as they cruised to a 95-49 win over Southwest Baptist (8-8/1-5).  WU took a quick 9-2 lead and did not look back.

SBU was led by post players Livia Brito and Casey Beavers who each had 11 points.  Courtney Creed had 10.  Trisha Lyons had six rebounds for SBU.

Opening the half on a 9-2 run, SBU did cut the lead to five, 9-5, on a Traci Bybee three-pointer.  That is as close as the Lady Bearcats would come in the game.  SBU did not hit double digits in scoring until the 10:03 mark on a Beavers jumper.  By that time WU had an 18-point lead.  WU took a 47-22 halftime lead on 61% shooting.  SBU only shot 25% from the floor.

The second half was all Lady Blues as their quick tempo offense and stingy defense held SBU to 30% shooting.

SBU finished the game shooting 27% from the floor to WU's 58%.  WU out rebounded SBU, 44-34.  SBU had 19 turnovers and 11 steals while WU had 18 turnovers and 14 steals.

The Lady Bearcats will finish their non-conference play on Tuesday, January 17th, when they host Oakland City in Bolivar at 6 p.m.
