Jim Grabowski led SBU with 14 points and had a key block in the second half.
BOLIVAR, MO. ... Outscoring Pittsburg State 10-2 in the final 4:18 of the game, #7 Southwest Baptist put their name in the men's basketball history book as they improved to 14-0 on the season, 73-69.  The win clips the 1989-90 start of 13-0 under Jerry Kirksey.

"We are very thankful to be 14-0 but the main thing we take away from this game is we need to strive to get better.  I feel we have hit a wall and our seniors need to step up and break through that wall for us," says head coach Jeff Guiot.

With 4:18 to go, Pittsburg State held a four-point advantage, 67-63, when SBU turned on their pizzaz style of play to rock the Meyer Sports Center.  With 3:41 to go in the game, Jim Grabowski blocked a PSU shot that started a fast break and ended with a massive Frans Steyn dunk to tie the game at 67.  At the 2:35 mark, PSU took a two-point lead on a layup  only to see Grabowski tie the game 26 seconds later.  With 1:03 to go, PSU had a chance to take the lead but Steyn came through again with a block and then PSU fouled after the block to stop the clock.  Steyn nailed both free throws to give SBU a two-point lead, 71-69.  SBU's Sheldon Pace hit one of two free throws with 31 seconds left to give SBU a three-point lead.   PSU had another chance to tie the game but turned the ball over.  Grabowski was fouled with 12 seconds left and made one-of-two free throws for the four-point advantage.

Grabowski led SBU with 14 points as he was 6-of-8 from the floor.  Deon Davis and Jason Jemison each had 13 points and then Steyn recorded 11 points and five blocks.  Sheldon Pace had a career-high 13 assists.  PSU's Eddie Jackson led all scorers with 32 points.

SBU claimed a 14-point lead in the first 10 minutes of the first half only to see PSU work it down to four at the half, 37-33.  SBU had a 24-10 lead at the 9:56 mark but could PSU did not fold in their comeback effort.

The win for SBU gives coach Jeff Guiot a 3-1 mark against his alma mater where he was an all-American.

SBU shot 45% from the floor, 51% in the second half, and 70% from the free throw line.  They were out rebounded, 39-35, but held PSU to 41% shooting from the floor.

Guiot says, "Here at SBU it is not about winning or losing but it is about the effort.  If we give good effort we can be proud regardless of the outcome and vice versa."

The Bearcats will face Northwest Missouri State on Saturday, January 7, in Maryville, at 7:30 p.m.
