DALLAS, Texas -- SBU finishes the non-conference schedule with a 2-2 draw against Dallas Baptist.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 15 minutes into the match, with the Lady Patriots from DBU came back with a goal in the 34th and 66th minutes. Sophomore Kelly Isaac stuck first in the 8th minute, on a pass from Jaymye Ross. In the 15th minute, Ross doubled SBU's lead with her own goal, assisted by freshman Taylor Vick. The goals were Isaac's first and the second for Ross on the season.
The Lady Patriots came back in the 34th minute, to cut the lead to 2-1 on a penalty kick before the end of the first half. DBU connected again in the second half to tie the game with about twenty-four minutes remaining. In the overtime session, SBU out-shot Dallas Baptist, 4-1, yet could not put one in the back of the net.
Overall, SBU outshot The Lady Patriots 21-10, and led in shots on goal, 14-4. "We really dominated the match from start to finish," head coach Rob Podeyn commented afterwards. We finished out our non-conference schedule undefeated, and even though we're playing really well, we aren't playing out best soccer yet. We are getting better, and improving each game, which is where you want to be as a team as the conference season is beginning."
SBU opens up the MIAA schedule this Thursday, September 10, as the Bearcats will make their home debut against Emporia State. Kickoff is 3 pm.
