SBU runner Courtney Ayers was named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine 2008-09 Academic All-American Women's Track/Cross Country second team. She joins teammate Michael McCampbell, who on Thursday, earned third team honors on the men's Academic All-American team.

Ayers, a recent graduate from Maryland Heights, Mo., earned a perfect 4.0 GPA and graduated a year early with a degree in Christian ministries. At the 2009 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, she earned All-MIAA in the 10,000 meters. Ayers also earned All-South Central Region and All-MIAA after helping SBU to a third place finish in cross country. She is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team member in cross country, as well as a two-time honoree on the MIAA Presidential Scholars List, MIAA All-Academic Team, and MIAA Academic Honor Roll for both cross country and track. She holds SBU records in the indoor 3000 and 5000 meters and in the outdoor 3000 meters.

"Courtney has had a tremendous impact on our program," said head coach Corey McElhaney. "In addition to graduating early with a 4.0 GPA and her success in cross country and track, she worked many hours a week at an on-campus job. Obviously she's a hard worker and will go on to great things in the ministry serving the Lord."

The CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine All-American squads are comprised of the top individuals of first team honorees from eight regional districts and are awarded in both University (NCAA Division I) and College (NCAA Division II, III, NAIA and 2-year) Divisions.

CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) was founded in 1957. There were 102 members at the original meetings; since that time, CoSIDA has grown to over 2,300 members in the United States and Canada.
