SAN ANGELO, Texas -- The SBU track team capped their 2009 season with three more All-American honors, after performing on the highest stage at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. The event was hosted by Angelo State University.
Sarah Bowling earned her second All-American honor of 2009 after finishing eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 7.25 inches. The jump was a personal best for Bowling and also set a new school record. At the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, Bowling also earned All-American status with a seventh place finish.
Senior Michael Pierce ran a 3:54.26 in the 1500 meters to finish eighth, and picked up his third All-American honor of the year. Pierce earned All-American honors at the Indoor Championships in March with a sixth place finish in the mile and ran the anchor leg on the national runner-up distance medley relay team.
Junior Shawn Etzenhouser also scored his second 2009 All-American performance with an sixth place finish in the 800 meters. Etzenhouser ran a time of 1:51.91 to earn the honor. He was also a member of the national runner-up indoor DMR team along with Pierce, Nathaniel Rogers and Jeremy Glassmaker.
Sophomore Kyle Grant competed in the high jump, and tied for 11th in the nation with a jump of 6 feet, 7.5 inches.
