BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Three SBU football Bearcats were named preseason All-Americans by Consensus Draft Services. Wide receiver Johnnie King was named to the second team while quarterback Steve Gachette and defensive back Tyrin Holt earned honorable mention.

Johnnie King
King, a St. Louis native who will be a senior next season, was the NCAA Division II statistical champion in receptions per game with 89 catches in 10 games for an average of 8.9 per contest. He had 1120 yards receiving and nine touchdowns to lead the Bearcats. He was also named to the 2008 Football Gazette All-Super Region Four third team as well as the Independents Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) first team.

As a sophomore in 2008, Gachette (Lehigh Acres, Fla.) continued to put his name throughout the SBU record books. He was named ICAA Offensive Player of the Year and first team All-ICAA after completing 59.8% of his passes for 3371 yards (306.45 per game) and 27 touchdown passes. He's the only player in SBU history to throw for more 3000 yards and holds numerous records including season and career marks for touchdown passes, yards, attempts and completions. He also rushed for 658 yards (59.82 pg) and six touchdowns and led the ICAA in total offense with 4029 yards (366.27 pg).

Holt, a junior from Arlington, Texas, joined the 'Cats in 2008 and was named All-ICAA second team after tying for the team lead in tackles with 101 including 60 solo takedowns. He also had five pass breakups, one sack, one blocked kick and 2.5 tackles for loss.
