Four SBU track & field athletes headed to nationals

INDIANAPOLIS -- SBU's Sarah Bowling, Michael Pierce, Shawn Etzenhouser and Kyle Grant are headed to the 2009 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the participants on Tuesday.

Bowling qualified with the sixth-best triple jump in Division II at 12.05 meters. Grant also qualified sixth in the high jump at 2.12 meters. Pierce and Etzenhouser each qualified with the tenth-best times in their events -- Pierce at 3:48.94 in the 1500 meters and Etzenhouser at 1:51.56 in the 800 meters.

A total of 620 participants will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

The championships will be held May 21-23, at the Legrand Sports Complex on the campus of Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. Angelo State University will serve as host.
