KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- SBU softball teammates McKenzie Mortimer and Krysta
Baderdeen were named to the All-MIAA Softball Team. Mortimer earned
second team honors as an outfielder while Baderdeen was All-MIAA
honorable mention at utility after playing third base, first base and
left field.
Mortimer, a 5-6 junior from Pleasant Hope, Mo.,
picked up second team honors after hitting .308 on the year. She led
the team with 19 stolen bases and 4 triples. Mortimer was tied for
second in runs scored (29), was second in hits (53) and total bases
(78). This was the third straight season Mortimer earned All-MIAA,
after getting second team last season and honorable mention her
freshman season.
Baderdeen, a 5-9 sophomore from Marshfield,
Mo., had impressive season and was among the MIAA leaders in multiple
categories. Baderdeen ranked second in the league in average (.425),
third in hits (68), fourth in both total bases (2.0 per game) and
on-base percentage (.456), and sixth in slugging percentage (.662). She
was also ninth in homers (8 in 53 games/.15 per game) and ninth in RBI
(35/.66 per game).
Central Missouri senior LHP Megan Leonard was
a unanimous choice for both MIAA Pitcher of the Year and First Team
All-MIAA. Washburn junior 3B Tish Williams was named MIAA Player of the
Year. Utility player Amanda DeCastro of Pittsburg State was named
Freshman of the Year. Jen Bagley of Missouri Western was voted Coach of
the Year.
The SBU Bearcats finished the season 23-35 and 5-15 in
the MIAA, just missing the conference tournament. The 23 wins were the
most for the Bearcats since 1982. The 2009 squad also set several team
records including at-bats, runs, hits, RBI, doubles and stolen bases.
