BOLIVAR, Mo. -- They needed help but didn't quite get enough. The SBU softball Bearcats finished their season on Saturday with a home sweep of Northwest Missouri State.

SBU needed Fort Hays State to drop both games at home against Pitt State on Tuesday for the Bearcats to claim the final spot in the MIAA Tournament. But the Tigers were able to earn a split by winning the second game, 6-2 over the Gorillas, after dropping the first game 4-1. SBU would also have needed Washburn to finish ahead of Missouri Southern to claim the tiebreaker over FHSU, but the Lions moved past the Lady Blues with a split against UNO on Tuesday.

SBU ends their season at 23-35 and 5-15 in the MIAA. The 23 wins were the most in the program's history since the 1982 team won 27 games. The Bearcats finished 9th in the MIAA after being picked for 11th place in the preseason poll.
