BOLIVAR, Mo. --
The SBU Bearcat softball team took two from the green Bearcats of
Northwest Missouri, winning 5-1 and 11-3 on Saturday. The wins kept
SBU's hopes alive of reaching the MIAA Tournament.

SBU moved to 23-35 and 5-15 in the MIAA, ahead of Northwest at 4-16, and equal to Fort Hays State in the win column. Fort Hays (5-13 MIAA) hosts a doubleheader with Pitt State on Tuesday. If SBU and Fort Hays finish tied at 5-15, SBU would own the tiebreaker due to their win against Washburn earlier this year. When teams split their regular games, ties are broken by their record against the conference standings, beginning with the first place team.
Josie Rose, who threw a no-hitter earlier this week against Missouri S&T, went the distance in both contests to pick up her 14th and 15th wins of the season.
Nina Amaro Garcia provided the big blast in game one with a three-run homer that pushed SBU's lead to 4-0 in the third inning. Garcia went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the opener.
SBU clubbed four homers in the second game to run-rule the visitors. Krysta Baderdeen hit two long balls while McKenzie Mortimer had a three-run blast and Taressa Gomez had a solo shot. Gomez was 3-for-3 with two RBI while Mortimer was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
SBU is scheduled to travel to Rockhurst on Wednesday for a doubleheader
at 3:00 p.m., though those games might be moved. Rockhurst is also
battling for a spot in the GLVC tournament, which begins this weekend.
The MIAA Tournament begins Thursday at the Blue Valley Recreation
Complex in Overland Park, Kansas.
