KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Marton Zsiga of Southwest Baptist University has been named MIAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, for the week ending April 19.
Marton Zsiga (pronounced mar-TONE ZSHE-gah), a 6‑ foot‑ 3 junior from Szeged, Hungary, had a hand in two of the flight wins for the 21st‑ ranked Bearcats as they upset No. 16 Drury (Mo.), 6‑ 3, last Tuesday (April 14) in Springfield, Mo.
He and partner Emilio El Alabi claimed a tiebreaker victory at No. 1 doubles over the 19th‑ ranked pair in Division II, Nahom Serekeberhan and Ivan Marevic. Zsiga then defeated former teammate Alex Kacamakis ‑‑ last season's MIAA Most Valuable Player ‑‑ by a 6‑ 1, 6‑ 4 count in No. 1 singles.
Zsiga, the No. 26‑ ranked singles player in Division II this season, is a graduate of Korozy Fozsef High School in Hungary.
