BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Bearcat softball swept the Lincoln Blue Tigers Tuesday, in a pair of shutouts, winning 4-0 and 3-0.

Brittany Wood pitched her third complete game of the year, and her first shutout of the season in the opener. Wood allowed only three hits, her lowest total as a starter since allowing West Virginia State just one hit over five and two-thirds innings on March 24.

The game was a bit of a defensive battle, with both teams unable to score through the first four innings. SBU broke through in the bottom of the fifth, however, when Nina Amaro Garcia walked to lead off the inning, then advanced on Sarah Brison's sacrifice, and scored on a single by McKenzie Mortimer's single. The Bearcats were able to put the game away with a three-run sixth inning, highlighted by a leadoff triple by Katrina Munoz, and an RBI double by Krysta Baderdeen.

Josie Rose collected her 12th win of the season in the second game. Rose pitched the complete game, making it her third complete game shutout of the season. She also struck out 10 Blue Tigers, a season high.

The Bearcats (19-29) were able to get on the board early in the second game, after Taressa Gomez reached on an error leading off the first inning, then scored on Baderdeen's single. SBU stretched their lead to a 2-0 score in the third inning, when Aleece Nalbandian scored on Brison's groundout. The Bearcats then tacked on another run in the sixth, off a home run by Mortimer. With the loss, Lincoln falls to 12-36 on the season.

SBU will take their three-game winning streak on the road to Topeka, when they resume MIAA play against Washburn on Friday, April 17th. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM. The road trip then continues on to Emporia State on Saturday, starting at 1:00 PM.
