BOLIVAR, Mo. -- SBU was outhit by the Wildcats from Wayne State College in a twinbill on Saturday, losing 13-4 and 16-1.

In the opening game, SBU gave up three runs in the first inning, and trailed 10-0 after five innings. The Bearcat offense picked up in the sixth inning, getting on the scoreboard with a double by Bo Helsel, bringing in two runs, then a two-out single in the seventh inning by Kyle Wise that scored two more runs. Centerfielder Jason Asher contributed at the plate, going 1-for-3, with two runs and a pair of walks. Wise also hit well, going 2-for-4 with the two RBI in the seventh.

Freshman pitcher Ethan Stenger had his longest outing of the year, finishing the last five innings of the game. Stenger only gave up one run over his first four innings, and striking out five, before the Wildcats tacked on three more runs in the ninth inning.

The Bearcat pitching struggled in the second game, allowing 14 earned runs over the first five innings, while the offense was only able to produce four hits, and one run in the seventh and final inning. Third baseman Justin Barnhart led off the seventh with a single, then stole second and third, putting him in position to score on Ryan Huslig's groundout.

The losses drop the Bearcats to 7-29 on the season and were their 18th and 19th consecutive setbacks. Wayne State, ranked #27 in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper rankings, improved to 24-8 overall.

Next weekend the Bearcats travel to St. Joseph, Mo., for a four-game set against Missouri Western, starting Friday, April 17, at 4:00 PM. SBU's final homestand of the season is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, April 24-25, against Northwest Missouri State.
