BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU softball Bearcats were shut out in doubleheader action Tuesday, falling to Central Missouri 7-0 in game one and 1-0 in the second contest.
The Bearcats (16-26, 1-7 MIAA) were no-hit in the first game by UCM's Megan Leonard. The reigning MIAA Softball Athlete of the Week among pitchers, Leonard also extended her MIAA record for consecutive scoreless innings to 62 2/3 while tossing her second no-no of the season. The Jennies (24-8, 8-0 MIAA) were led by Jessie Shelman, who doubled three times and drove in two.
Game two was a pitching duel between SBU's Josie Rose and UCM's Krystal Holland. Both pitchers went seven innings with Rose allowing six hits to four by Holland. Rose struck out nine but allowed just one unearned run after a first inning throwing error allowed a UCM runner to score. Krysta Baderdeen led off the fourth with a double, the only extra-base hit for the Bearcats on the day.
SBU hits the road this weekend for more MIAA action. Friday, April 10, the Bearcats will battle co-league-leader Missouri Western in St. Joseph while on Saturday, SBU will take on Truman in Kirksville. Both days' doubleheaders begin at 2:00 p.m.
