EDINBORO, Pa. -- SBU's Matt Rogers has been named to the 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men's Basketball All-American second team, after helping the Bearcats to the MIAA regular season championship and the South Central Region finals. Voting was conducted among Division II sports information directors.

The Bearcats' 6-11 center, a junior from Doniphan, Mo., averaged 18.3 ppg. and 8.7 rpg. with a Division II-leading 123 blocked shots. He was named Daktronics South Central Region Player of the Year, unanimous MIAA MVP and MIAA Defensive Player of the Year. Rogers shot 51.2 percent from the floor (169 of 33) and was 160 of 211 from the line (75.8 pct.). He was also one of the Bearcats' best outside shooters, connecting on 50 of 123 (40.7 pct.) from long range.

SBU finished 26-5 and won their third MIAA regular season crown in the last four years. They advanced to the South Central regional final, which was the second-best NCAA tournament finish in school history. They also extended their home court winning streak to 30 games, one of the best active streaks in Division II.

Forward Lucas Alves of Brigham Young University-Hawaii was named the 2009 Daktronics Player of the Year. Joining Alves on the first team were forwards Laurence Ekperigin of LeMoyne, LaVontay Ferguson of Wisconsin-Parkside, Josh Bostic of Findlay and center Nick Kohs of Christian Brothers.

Joining Rogers on the second team were guards Ted Scott of West Virginia State, Thad McFadden of Fairmont State and Stan Hall of Alderson-Broaddus, along with forward Kevin Ratzsch of Northern State.

On the third team were Ben Madgen of Augusta State, Darren Duncan of Merrimack, Chris Commons of South Carolina-Aiken, Jesse Wagstaff of Metro State and Anthony Hilliard of Elizabeth City State.

The All-American teams are sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The online nomination and voting processes are powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM.
