HOUSTON, Texas -- Add two more All-American honors to the weekend tally
for SBU Bearcat indoor track and field at the D-II Festival NCAA
National Championships. Michael Pierce finished 6th in the mile with a
time of 4:12.80 while Sarah Bowling finished 7th in the triple jump
with a leap of 38-00.25.
On Friday, the distance medley relay
(DMR) team of Shawn Etzenhouser, Nathaniel Rogers, Jeremy Glassmaker
and Pierce took second and earned All-American honors, just missing a
national title by .3 of a second. Etzenhouser took 13th in the 800
meters.
Coach Corey McElhaney commented on the weekend's events.
"These were great days. Our DMR team put it all on the line. For two of
the guys to run double events and then finish like they was great. And
Michael (Pierce) was sick during the week and then to run as well as he
did, was awesome. Etzenhouser was upset with his performance in the 800
and came back to run well in the DMR. Sarah (Bowling) didn't jump her
best, but still earned All-American."
Bearcat track now moves outside for the outdoor track season, which begins Friday, March 27 in Columbia at the MU Relays.
