MISSION VIEJO, Calif. -- The SBU golf team opened their 2009 spring season at the 59th annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championship at the Mission Viejo Country Club in California. Junior Brad Nipper posted the Bearcats' best score, with a three round total of 241. Freshman Bryan Steele was close behind at 243.
Matt Buschman was next for the Bearcats at 248, followed by Justin Sellin at 251 and Matt Hefley at 257. The Bearcats' team score of 976 was tied with the University of California-San Diego B for thirteenth place.
California State-San Bernardino won the event with a team score of 912. Washburn's Matt Ewald was the top individual finisher at 219.
The average score on the course for all three rounds was 80.05. There
were seven eagles, 341 birdies, 1,875 pars, 1,372 bogies and 357 double
bogies.
The Bearcats are back in action on March 23-24 in Springfield for the Drury/Pasta House Spring Invitational at Highland Springs Country Club.
