BOLIVAR, Mo. -- After two high scoring games Friday, the Bearcats split two more shootouts against Pittsburg State, winning 16-6 in the first game before dropping the second, 18-14, on a windy day at Dodson Field.

A.J. Roller was one of several players to have big days in the doubleheader. Roller drove in six on the day.
SBU took an early 5-0 lead over the Gorillas in the first game, before pounding in nine runs in the fourth inning to go up 14-0. Greg Seay got the win for the 'Cats, going six innings, while giving up eight hits. Second baseman Kyle Tormanen had a good game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and a pair of RBI. C.J. Samuels brought in four RBI, including his second home run in as many games with a grand slam during the nine-run fourth inning.

The second game was much closer, especially in the final innings. Both teams started hot out of the gate, each putting three runs up in the first inning. The Gorillas, however, scored four more in the second inning, and led 9-5 going into the fifth inning. The 'Cats mounted a comeback, scoring three runs on three hits and an error by Pitt State, then tacked on one more in the sixth, to tie the game at 9-9.

The Gorillas tallied three runs in the top of the seventh, but the Bearcats would battle back again, getting another grand slam, this time off the bat of A.J. Roller.

With SBU carrying a one run lead into the eighth inning, Pitt State centerfielder Taylor House hit a solo home run to tie the game. The Bearcats answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning off the bat of Samuels, driving in Justin Barnhart to re-take the lead, 14-13. Pitt State was able to pull away in the ninth inning, however, scoring five runs on three hits and a pair of walks.

SBU split the weekend series with the Gorillas, scoring a total of 45 runs over the four games, while allowing 42 runs to Pitt State. The Bearcats record moves to 6-9 on the season, and 4-2 in the MIAA.

Next week, the Bearcats travel to Kirksville to take on the Truman Bulldogs in a four game set, on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
