JOPLIN, Mo. -- Krysta Baderdeen's walkoff two-run homer led the SBU Bearcats to an 8-7 victory in game one over Rockhurst, and SBU followed up with 5-0 shutout of Arkansas Tech in the second game at the Missouri Southern / Pittsburg State Border Battle.

Trailing 7-6 with one out in the bottom of the seventh, SBU's Nina Amaro Garcia singled to left ahead of Baderdeen's big blast. The sophomore third baseman from Marshfield, Mo., was 3-for-4 in the game with three RBI and three runs scored. She leads the team with three homers, 13 RBI and a .425 batting average.

Stephanie Rodriguez also had a big game for the Bearcats, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. Josie Rose came on in relief and pitched three innings, striking out four and grabbing the win.

Rose went the distance in game two versus Arkansas Tech to earn her fifth win of the season. She struck out seven while allowing one walk and four hits. McKenzie Mortimer was the star offensively, going 2-for-3 with two runs and three stolen bases.

Coach Christy Capner was excited about the wins. "The girls played really well. Rockhurst and Arkansas Tech are both great teams. We were shaky in the field in the first game, but they stepped it up with the bats."

"Josie (Rose) came and was tremendous, striking out 11 in the two games. Krysta (Baderdeen) had another big day at the plate. Brittney Wood also threw well in the first game," added Capner.

SBU (6-9) was originally scheduled at the Border Battle for three games on Saturday, February 28, but those games were cancelled due to cold weather conditions. The Bearcats are next in action on Wednesday in Springfield, Mo., to take on the Drury Panthers. Their games at Pittsburg State on Monday, March 2 were rescheduled for Tuesday, March 10. Both days games are doubleheaders beginning at 2:00 p.m.
